To operate successfully, start-up entrepreneurs in the media field need resources, knowledge and skills, as well as working partnerships. It is well known that universities play an important role in all ecosystems of business, especially start-up companies (Genome’s Global Startup Ecosystem Report, 2021) and new emerging technology centres, which are the co-creators of value for companies, sources of human capital, and catalysts and test laboratories that promote innovation.
At the meeting on 9 June, media entrepreneurs were introduced to the current activities and future plans of Tallinn University and ScreenME. Sean Branagan from the Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship at Syracuse University, New York, led an inspiring brainstorming session, where it was discussed how Tallinn University can help (start-up) companies to succeed and what opportunities exist for cooperation between companies and the university. Ben Reynolds of Spalk, who won the best product innovation award at the prestigious NAB Show (the world’s largest media, entertainment and technology fair organized by the National Association of Broadcasters, USA), spoke about his successful cooperation experience with the Newhouse School.
