Jonas Weber from Ilmenau Technische University
What is your background, and what is your main field of research?
I am a research associate at the Technische Universität Ilmenau in the Media and Communication Management research group. I came here in March 2021 after finishing my master’s degree at the Bauhaus Universität Weimar. My current research focuses on media platforms like Netflix and Spotify. The plan is to conduct several studies across different media industries to understand better how this form of media content distribution has changed the field. At the moment, I am quite deeply into the theory. But I will let you know as soon as I can provide any empirical insights. The latest research, presented this year, is a study about cooperation and organisational learning in media organisations. I conducted this study together with my colleagues Miriam Bernhard, Andreas Will, and Britta Gossel.
What is your role in the ScreenME project?
In the ScreenME project, I was mainly engaged in the work package one. Together with Britta Gossel and Andreas Will, I organised TU Ilmenau’s workshop. So, I invited and coordinated with our guest speakers, gave technical support, and so on. Since this work package finished, I have been more active in the early career researchers’ work package, as well as a participant in different workshops, talks, and webinars. Moreover, I am responsible for several administrative tasks for the ScreenME project at the Technische Universität Ilmenau.
What do you like about the ScreenME project?
What I really liked from the beginning about the ScreenME project was the international cooperation with academics from all over Europe. Back then, I was just starting my work at the TU Ilmenau, and ScreenME was a great opportunity to get to know the European media management community. Because of the project, I felt part of this community right from the start of my PhD. Further, I really like the insights that we get through the project about different countries, their media markets, and their media industries all over Europe. We had so many interesting discussions and heard plenty of enlightening talks from industry speakers, so I feel I have a better overview of screen media in Europe and especially about entrepreneurial activities.
